Hi, I’m Lindsay. With an a.
I can’t tell you how many times in my life I’ve said, “My name is Lindsay … with an a.” I’m grateful SAY is in my name. It encourages me.
I’ve grown up four times so far. The first time was in Bakersfield, California, where I was born and spent the first 20 years of my life. The second was in southern Orange County, after I went through a divorce and discovered my spirituality. The third was when I spent three years living in South Sudan. The fourth was when I went through my first Yoga Teacher Training, The Art of Living and Dying.
My life has been interesting. I’ve enjoyed many adventures, and will continue on in this spirit for as long as I can. I have lived in four different countries, two of them in East Africa, one in Eastern Europe, and one right here in North America. I was in South Sudan, pre, during, and post war of 2013.
My educational background is in psychology (BA), international development (MA) and yoga teaching (RYT 200). As a creator, my main areas of focus currently are in creating yoga sequences — both Healing Flow and Trauma-Sensitive — and meditation scripts + activities, as well as documenting life through the written word.
I have collaborated on creative projects — including writing, therapeutic creativity, mindfulness, meditation and yoga — with various entities including RELEVANT Magazine, Mennonite Central Committee, Lifewater International, Creativity 4 a Cause, New Method Wellness and Aspire Behavioral Health.
I’ve been blogging for ten years. I’ve been writing for 30+ years. I wrote my first book when I was seven years old. The book is called Thor and it chronicles the short life of a kitten. After establishing my love of writing with Thor, I began keeping record of life through journaling. The practice has stayed alive for nearly 30 years. Today, I practice a more holistic form of journaling I call Creative Journaling, which includes more than just writing.
I focus on process over outcome in everything I do. I’m blossoming as a yogi — practicing and teaching — witnessing all the pieces of my life come together like a beautiful mosaic. As Penny Lane said, “It’s all happening.” I met God in June 2004, but I don’t like to refer to myself as a Christian. I’m all about radical grace and love.
The earth is extravagant in its beauty. I am particularly moved by the sight of redwoods, birds, daisies, wildflowers, turquoise water, the various glows and sparkles created by the sun and atmosphere, black and white, color, and smiles. I love the smell of pine trees and plumeria flowers. The sound of wind blowing through trees is like heaven to me. That, laughter, and good music.
I place strong value on movement, creativity, and healing. Much of what I write about has to do with one, two, or all three of these. Dancing, traveling, and writing are my three favorite things to do, besides connecting with the humans I love.
Thanks so much for checking out this space. It means a lot to me! If you have any questions, I’d love to try to answer them.
Love and light to you,
Lindsay with an a
